Phishing is cheating people by fraudulent methods using the information from the internet. Criminals access this information by resorting to trickery and creating forged websites in order to obtain information about yourself and your financial information. Presently phising frauds on the internet have been growing at an alarming rate leaving many people bankrupt.

Phishing fraud takes place in many ways and people are duped using a variety of tactics. These criminals use well-known web sites to lure unsuspecting victims to disclose all their personal details.

A very common method by which phishing fraud takes place is by spamming whereby users get spam mails or fake mails, which look like they contain valid messages from their bank or Credit Card Company or even from online shopping sites.

These criminals send mails to people and trick them into giving out their personal details like name and address, username, phone number, password or pin number of the account, the bank account number, date of birth, ATM/ Credit card number and pin number, social security number and even the credit card verification code or number.

These unscrupulous elements then use these details to transfer all your funds to other accounts, apply for loans and credit cards, etc.They can even use your ATM information to withdraw cash anywhere in the world.

Being aware that there are phishing frauds taking place on the internet and updating yourself with the latest facts on a regular basis will help protect you from these phishing frauds.  You should definitely have a good anti phishing software installed on your system, which will keep alerting you regarding any kind of a phishing attempt.
 
Make sure that you do not reply to suspecting emails even if they appear to be from your bank or Credit Card Company. Call the listed number of your bank or credit card Company to verify the same. Do not use any phone number, which comes along with the email message. Make sure that you do not click any links that may have been provided in the emails. Keep changing your passwords regularly and make sure that they are strong so that no one can hack into them.

Always make it a point to verify your bank statements at regular intervals just to keep track of all your transactions. This can be done online. This will help keep a check on any suspect transactions that could have taken place without your knowledge.
